Carnevali Cantieri Nautici builds motor yachts in Ravenna on Italy's Adriatic coast. The family story goes back to 1960, when Ambrogio Carnevali went into boatbuilding with Giancarlo Dellapasqua under the DC name. The pair were among the first in Italy to take their cue from the Hunt deep-V hull and to pair it with sterndrive propulsion. In 1992 Ambrogio Carnevali went his own way and founded the present yard with his son Angelo, who has run it alone since 2005. Ambrogio died in 2020 at the age of 87. Over the years the range stretched from about 30 feet to a 72-foot flagship, and the yard became known above all for flybridge cruisers of 13 to 16 metres on variable-deadrise V hulls.

Our model records hold 18 designs, every one of them classed as a motor yacht. Eleven carry a length in feet in their name, running from the Carnevali 30 at 9 metres to the Carnevali 72 at 22 metres. Seven belong to the numbered series: the C 140 and the Carnevali 130, 142, 145, 155, 160 and 180. The earliest entries, the Carnevali 36 special and the Carnevali 42, start in 1990 and 1991. Six designs reach into the most recent build years, namely the 68, the 72, the 130, the 142, the 160 and the 180, while the 38 and the 145 are listed up to 2024. Six designs fall between 13 and 16 metres, three measure 20 metres or more and four stay below 12 metres.

A Carnevali is usually a diesel flybridge cruiser, and that shapes how it ages. On any used example the drive train deserves a careful look, whether shafts or sterndrives, together with the seacocks, the engine hours and the service history. On a boat from the nineties the flybridge structure, its screen and the hardware that holds it are worth checking for stress cracks in the gelcoat. A survey out of the water shows the condition of the bottom and the running gear. Yachts of this size are typically used for coastal cruising with long seasons and many weeks alongside, so teak decks, upholstery and electrics tend to show wear well before the hull does.
