Behind the company name DY KOT stands the Kot family from Olecko in north-eastern Poland. In 1990 the brothers Piotr and Wojciech Kot founded Sportlake there and started out with rowing boats and small kayaks. By 1999 the business had become Stocznia Jachtowa Sportlake, building the Sportina and Cortina lines. Around 2001 and 2002 the Delphia name appeared, taken from Philadelphia, a city the brothers' father had visited and liked. From 2005 the Olecko site also turned out motorboats on an assembly line. Groupe Beneteau bought a majority stake in 2018 and the rest in 2020, after the yard had stopped building sailing boats in September 2019 to focus on motorboats.
Our model records list 29 designs: eleven sailing yachts, five open sailing boats, eight motor yachts and five motorboats. Seventeen carry the Delphia name, from the Delphia 24 One Design through the sailing yachts from 28 to 47 to the Escape and BluEscape motor yachts and the Delphia Nano. They are joined by four Sportina, four Cortina, two Phila, the Nautika 830 and the 989 Platinum. The oldest entries, the Sportina 682 and Sportina 760, start in 1996. Three designs reach into the most recent build years: the Cortina 555 and the Delphia BluEscape 1200 and 1200 Fly. Ten boats stay under eight metres and eleven measure ten metres or more, from 4.64 metres for the Cortina 480 to 14.33 metres for the Delphia 47.
Since sailboat production in Olecko ended in 2019, every Delphia sailing yacht is now a used boat. On such a boat the rudder bearings, the keel joint and the condition of sails and running rigging deserve a close look, along with a log of engine hours. On the Escape and BluEscape motor yachts, which suit rivers and lakes as well as the coast, check the shaft seals, the bow thruster and the electrics of the living quarters. The small Cortina boats are often trailered, and the trailer is worth as much attention as the hull.
