Dyna Craft LTD; cover, cost and conditions

Dyna Craft Ltd was set up in 1986 in Tainan, in the south of Taiwan, an area well stocked with marine suppliers. Its founder and president, Terry Yen, is a naval architect and still draws the yard's models himself. Everything began with two designs, a 46-foot sundeck motor yacht and a 53-foot Yacht Fisher, which became the base for much of what followed. Before 2000 Dyna teamed up with Marlow Yachts to reach American buyers and added a second production facility. The yachts simply carry the Dyna name and a type number, and today the range runs from the Dyna 32 to custom builds from 77 feet upwards.

Our model records hold 20 designs, every one of them a motor yacht. The oldest entry is the Dyna 53 from 1985. The eighties and nineties also brought the Dyna 45 and 50, some in Sedan or PH form, the Dyna 53 PH and two versions of the Dyna 66 AK; nine designs end in 2009 at the latest. From 2005 come the Dyna 51, 55 and 65 and the Laguna 70 and 77, and from 2012 the Dyna 52, 60, 63, 68 and the Dyna 95, at 29 metres the largest yacht on the list. Four designs carry on into the most recent build years: the Dyna 32, 52, 63 and 68. The smallest is the Dyna 32 at 10.7 metres, while seven designs reach 20 metres or more.

Yachts of this size usually live on a fixed berth and leave it for longer passages, so engines, generators and steering gear clock up many hours. On a used Dyna from the late eighties or nineties a surveyor should look closely at the deck and superstructure, the shaft seals, the fuel tanks and the wiring, and the seller should be able to show engine hours and service records. A flybridge adds a second helm whose instruments and cables age faster in sun and rain. Larger yachts in the range often come with a professional skipper or a management company, and their logbooks tell a lot about how the boat has been used.
