Egg Harbor Yachts is an American yard from New Jersey, founded in 1946 by John Leek and Russel Post. It began with rowboats and skiffs and later moved on to large sportfishing and motor yachts, switching from traditional wood to fibreglass in the early seventies. The boats are built around fishing, in open and convertible layouts with a big cockpit at the stern. Model names give the length in feet, and the newer lines add an apostrophe, as in 43' Sport Yacht.
Our model records list seven Egg Harbor designs, all motor yachts. Three classics date from the sixties and seventies: the Egg Harbor 37 from 1964 to 1974, the 43 from 1965 to 1975 and the 33 from 1968 to 1977. Four newer lines are recorded with build years 2007 to 2019: the Predator 35' Express and the 37', 43' and 50' Sport Yacht. Lengths run from 10.04 metres (Egg Harbor 33) to 16.15 metres (50' Sport Yacht), with a gap of about three decades between the old and the new lines in our records.
These are boats for a marina berth and offshore fishing days, not for the trailer. On the classics from the sixties and seventies, engines, shafts and the fuel system decide how well the boat has aged, and a thorough survey before buying is worthwhile. On the Sport Yachts built from 2007 to 2019, fishing gear, electronics and cockpit hardware need regular care, with a fresh water rinse after every trip in salt water.
