Enterprise Marine S.p.A. is an Italian yard near Forlì in Emilia-Romagna, a few kilometres inland from the Adriatic. It has stayed where it started, specialises in flybridge motor yachts and keeps its handcraft in house rather than passing it to subcontractors. EM yachts are recognisable by the EM prefix and a sporty profile with an open upper deck above the saloon. Two naming systems are in use: older yachts carry two digit numbers such as EM 38 or EM 54, newer ones three digit numbers such as EM 420, EM 490 or EM 600.

Our records list eleven models, all motor yachts. Seven have two digit names, EM 38, 40, 42, 43, 46, 54 and 58, and four have three digit names, EM 420, 450, 490 and 600. The earliest build year is 1997, for the EM 46. Six models run into the most recent years: EM 43, EM 46, EM 420, EM 450, EM 490 and EM 600. The EM 38, 42 and 54 end in 2005, the EM 40 and 58 in 2009. Lengths range from 12.3 metres (EM 38) to 18.71 metres (EM 600): five models sit between 12 and 14 metres, four between 14 and 17, and two above.

An EM is a marina yacht. At 12 to almost 19 metres it lives on a fixed berth, often in the Mediterranean, and comes out by crane for antifouling and winter work. The flybridge brings its own chores: canvas, cushions and the upper helm electronics all take the full force of sun and salt, so fitted canvas and a regular rinse pay off. Twin inboard engines, generators and air conditioning on the larger models need yearly servicing by someone who knows the installation.
