Iguana Yachts; cover, cost and conditions

Iguana Yachts is a Normandy company, founded in July 2008. Antoine Brugidou, who had previously worked in management consulting, developed the idea of a boat that can drive itself out of the water, together with naval architect Tanguy Le Bihan and the design studio Fritsch & associés. The result is a motorboat with tracks: at sea they sit tucked into the hull, and for land use they swing down hydraulically through 90 degrees. That lets the boat cross sand and mud and climb slopes of up to twelve degrees. The running gear is aluminium and the hull carbon fibre. With 300 horsepower on the transom it reaches up to 35 knots afloat and around seven kilometres an hour ashore.

Our model records hold one design from Iguana Yachts, the Iguana 29 Sport Classic. It is listed as a motor yacht of 8.4 metres, recorded from build year 2022 and still present in the most recent build years. The Iguana 29 comes in three trim lines, Exclusive, Classic and Adventure; the Classic is the sporty version with a sharp bow and deliberately plain fit-out. The boats serve as tenders for large yachts and as day boats for beach houses with no jetty or slipway. No other sizes or earlier build years from the yard appear in our records.

An amphibious boat needs the care of a boat and of a small vehicle. Sand and salt find their way into tracks, rollers and hydraulic rams, so a thorough freshwater rinse after every beach landing is part of the routine. Hydraulic hoses, seals and the pivot points of the running gear deserve regular inspection, and the service history of the tracks is as important as the engine hours of the outboard. When buying a used Iguana, ask for records of both, check how smoothly the tracks deploy and retract, and look at the carbon hull where it meets the running gear. Most of these boats work as tenders or beach boats, so short trips and frequent landings are the norm.

Iguana 29 Sport Classic

Iguana 29 Sport Classic is a motor yacht from Iguana Yachts, built since 2022.

What this means for the cover

As the Iguana 29 Sport Classic by Iguana Yachts series is still in production,

parts are available and repair costs are predictable.

Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.

For the Iguana 29 Sport Classic by Iguana Yachts series:

On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.

Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
