LongIsland; cover, cost and conditions
LongIsland, also sold as Long Island Yachts, is a Dutch builder based at Jachtwerf Allemansgeest in Voorschoten. It makes GRP motorboats and smaller motor yachts with planing hulls. The range has three lines: Runabout, Sportsman and Tender. The number in the name is very close to the length in feet: the 25 measures 7.4 metres, the 33 exactly 10 metres and the flagship 40 12 metres.
Our model records list twelve LongIsland designs, five motorboats and seven motor yachts. Six belong to the Sportsman line (25, 28, 28 Sun, 29 Open, 33 and 33 Sun), five to the Runabout line (25, 29, 33, 33 Sun and 40), plus the 26 Tender. The earliest build year is 2003 with the 28 Sportsman and the 33 models; the 25s follow in 2010, the 29 Sportsman Open in 2014 and the 29 Runabout in 2017. Four entries end in 2020, the 26 Tender and the three Sun versions, while the other eight run into the latest build years. Lengths range from 7.4 metres (25 Runabout and Sportsman) to 12 metres (40 Runabout).
A LongIsland is built to run on the plane, so the boats feel at home on open lakes, estuaries and calm coastal water. The 25s and the 26 Tender tow easily, which suits owners who like to trailer to the Mediterranean or a lake in the Alps for the summer. Varnished trim and upholstery last far longer with a fitted canvas and a winter indoors, and a planing hull rewards a clean bottom with better speed and lower fuel use.
