Neptunus Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Neptunus has been building motor yachts in Aalst since 1960, the older models as canal and coastal yachts, the new ones as fast flybridge yachts with values well into six figures. In insurance terms, a whole world lies between a Neptunus 133 from 1985 and a Neptunus 62 of today: there, agreed value and preservation of the substance; here, limit of indemnity, the charter question and crew.
For the large models the question of use is decisive. Private letting of up to thirty days a year is included with us, with a written rental agreement. Anything beyond that is commercial use and requires commercial cover, including liability towards paying guests.
With the older displacement boats, electrolysis is the issue. A steel or aluminium hull on shore power needs working anodes and a sound isolation transformer. If both are missing, corrosion eats through the plating within one season, and that is wear and tear, not an insured loss.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
May I let my yacht occasionally?
For Neptunus: Up to thirty days in the insurance year, yes, with a written rental agreement.
Beyond that it is commercial use and has to be agreed.
Is corrosion damage to a steel hull covered?
No, not for Neptunus either: gradual corrosion is wear and tear.
What is covered are sudden events, for example a leak after a collision.
Check the anodes and the isolation transformer every year.

Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For the Neptunus 108 / 133 (classic), Neptunus 145 / 168,
Neptunus 56 / 62 Flybridge by Neptunus series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
