Yachtwerft Lütje is a Hamburg yard whose boats look traditional but are built with current methods. It is run by Jan-Hendrik Böhm, a long-serving employee who took the business over. Under him the yard presented a daysailer drawn by Judel/Vrolijk of Bremen, with a plumb stem borrowed from English pilot cutters and a modern T-keel beneath. Hull and deck are laid up as a glassfibre sandwich with epoxy resin, a method also given for the yard's Coaster models. The Elbe motorboats take their cue from an older design called Georgia. Classic lines and teak in the fit-out are what most people notice first.

Our model records hold five Lütje designs, and every one of them runs into the most recent build years. The oldest entry is the Daysailer 35, a 10.8 metre sailing yacht listed from 2013. The four powered designs follow from 2016: the Elbe 28 at 8.55 metres, the Elbe 33 and Elbe Eins 33 at 10.5 metres each, and the Modern Coaster 35 Open, which at 11.1 metres is the longest boat in the range. Three of them are filed as motor yachts and the Elbe 28 as a motorboat. The whole range sits within a tight band of about eight and a half to eleven metres, with no dinghies and no large yachts.

Boats like these reward attentive owners. Epoxy sandwich hulls are stiff and light, but any impact damage should be checked by someone who knows the laminate, since moisture in a sandwich core can spread. Teak trim needs regular cleaning and an eye on the joints. On the motor yachts, the shaft, the drive and the engine hours tell much of the story. A daysailer is built for short outings rather than long passages, so on a used one the service history matters more than the age alone: ask for the invoices, look closely at the varnish and compare the electronics with the original specification.
