Insurance for indoor playgrounds, soft play centres and trampoline parks in Germany

Indoor playgrounds, soft play centres and trampoline parks in Germany live on rainy days and winter weekends. Hundreds of children climb, slide and bounce while parents sit in the café, and every fall can turn into a liability question. This page explains which insurance an operator needs, what it costs and where the gaps usually are.

Insurance for indoor playgrounds in Germany

The question almost everyone asks first

Do I have to pay if a child falls off a slide while the parents are watching?

Only if you did something wrong, for example left a damaged item open or failed to display the house rules. You still have to defend the claim, and that is exactly what public liability insurance does: it checks the claim, rejects unjustified demands and pays justified ones. Written records of maintenance and daily checks make this much easier.

What goes wrong in this trade

  1. 01

    Falls from equipment

A child falls inside the climbing frame and breaks an arm. The health insurer reclaims treatment costs, the parents ask for compensation.

  2. 02

    Trampoline collisions

Two children land on the same bed. Insurers treat trampolines as a separate risk, and not every policy includes them.

  3. 03

    Fire in the hall

Foam, nets and padding burn quickly. After a fire the equipment is lost and the hall closed for weeks.

  4. 04

    Water damage

A burst pipe soaks the ball pit and the soft play mats, which then have to be replaced.

  5. 05

    Break-ins

Thieves take the till, arcade machines and electronics overnight.

  6. 06

    Winter closure

Most revenue comes in the cold months. Losing the hall then costs a year's profit.

The insurance you need

Essential

Business liability

The core cover for injuries to children and parents, damage to their property and defence against unjustified claims. Trampolines, bouncy castles and catering must be included.

Strongly advised

Business contents

Covers equipment, padding, till, kitchen and electronics against fire, water, storm and burglary.

Business interruption

Pays lost profit and running costs such as rent and wages after an insured property loss.

Business legal expenses

Legal expenses for disputes with landlord, suppliers and staff and for criminal proceedings after an accident.

Depends on the business

Group accident insurance

Accident cover for visiting children pays regardless of fault and calms disputes with parents.

Cyber insurance

If you sell tickets, parties and vouchers online and store customer data.

What it costs: example prices

Premiums depend on floor space, visitor numbers, type of equipment and whether trampolines and catering are part of the business. Trampoline parks cost considerably more in liability than classic soft play.

  2. Keep written records of maintenance and daily visual checks of all equipment.
  3. Display the house rules clearly and point out that parents remain responsible for supervision.
  4. Insure equipment and padding at replacement value and review the sum after every expansion.
  5. Choose an indemnity period for business interruption that covers a full winter season.
  6. Agree in the lease who insures the building, glass and technical installations.
