How the place works
At Passau the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz meet, and during Alpine snowmelt the Inn brings more water than the Danube itself. The level can rise by metres within a day, and the current increases accordingly.
What breaks there
The picture resembles the Moselle: boats moved too late, pontoons floating off their piles, debris on rudders and propellers. Add the locks at the barrages, where you have to berth in a strong current.
