BoatLab. LLC; cover, cost and conditions
Finval is a brand of aluminium fishing boats run by BoatLab LLC. Its own website presents Finval as a Boatlab LLC company and refers to the shipping register of Ukraine, while North American buyers deal with BoatLab USA, LLC, trading as Finval USA in Mequon, Wisconsin. The boats are all aluminium, and for the Finval 595 FishPro the maker points out that no plywood or wood goes into the build. They are meant for inland and coastal fishing, from tournament boats for big lakes to nimble shallow draught boats for narrow water. The line names tell you what to expect: FishPro with a large casting deck in the bow, Rangy for shallow water, Evo with a small cabin and Tiller for helmless boats that keep the deck clear.
Our model records hold twelve designs, all classed as motorboats and all starting from 2014 onwards. Eleven run into the most recent build years; only one of the two 475 Evo Tiller entries ends in 2022. The Evo line is the largest with four entries: the 475 Evo, two 475 Evo Tiller versions and the 550 Evo. The FishPro line has the 505, 555 and 685, and the Sport Angler appears as 555 and 685. The Rangy 510 and Rangy 510 SC are the oldest, with the Rangy 510 starting in 2014. The Finval 595 joins from 2022. Lengths run from 4.72 metres for the 475 Evo to 7.2 metres for the 685 Sport Angler, and ten of the twelve boats stay under six metres.
An all aluminium hull with no wood inside will not rot, but it does need protection from galvanic corrosion. Check the anodes, keep stainless screws and dissimilar metals well isolated and rinse the boat after use in salt water. On a used Finval, look at the welds along the keel and transom, at the floor for dents from trailering and at the wiring for the electric trolling motor and electronics. Many of these boats are launched several times a week from a ramp, so the trailer, its rollers and its lights matter as much as the hull. A tiller boat is simple to service; a console boat has more cables and steering parts to inspect.
