Worth knowing
C & C Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
C&C Yachts was incorporated on 26 September 1969 in Canada, bringing together the design office of George Cuthbertson and George Cassian with several Canadian builders; the two designers' initials became the brand. The company built fast fibreglass sailing yachts at Niagara-on-the-Lake. In 1996 Fairport Yachts, builder of Tartan, took over and moved production to Ohio, where it ended in 2018. The classic models carry their length in feet, so a C&C 38 is 11.45 metres, while the models from 2004 count in decimetres: the 99 is 9.91 metres, the 121 about 12.2.
Our model records list 31 C&C models: 29 sailing yachts, one smaller sailboat, the C&C 24, and the C&C 44 II, which is filed as a motor yacht. Build years run from 1967 to 2019 and none is in current production. Lengths range from 7.3 to 15.8 metres, with half between 9.6 and 12.4 metres. The classic range runs from the C&C 26 and 27 through the 30, 34, 35 and 36 to the 44 and the 15.77 metre C&C 51, plus the Landfall 38, 42 and 48. The Ohio years brought the 99, 110, 115, 121 and 131, and the last boats, the 30 One Design and Redline 41, ran until 2019.
C&C yachts tend to be sailed hard: club racing on the Great Lakes, coastal passages and, for the bigger boats, offshore work. On a boat that may be forty or fifty years old, value comes down to structure and gear. What matters is the keel attachment, the deck core around fittings, the standing rigging, the sails and the engine hours.

Why are newer C&C models called 99, 110 or 121?

For the C & C 30 One Design, C & C Redline 41,
C & C 99 by C & C Yachts and 5 more series the market value and the replacement cost often differ
widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the C & C 36, C & C 30, C & C 36 R by C & C Yachts and 20 more series there is no list price
left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the C & C 30 One Design, C & C Redline 41, C & C 99 by C & C Yachts and further series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For the C & C 24 by C & C Yachts series:
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides.
A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
For the C & C 44 II by C & C Yachts series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
