Cantieri di Pisa s.p.a.; cover, cost and conditions

Cantieri di Pisa was founded in 1945 at Limite sull'Arno in Tuscany and has worked since 1956 from the Darsena Pisana on the Navicelli canal in Pisa. The yard made its name with yachts called after constellations and stars, among them Pegasus, Saturno, Jupiter, Polaris and Kitalpha, but the Akhir became its signature. The line started in 1970 with the Akhir 16, designed by Pier Luigi Spadolini. Two naming systems run side by side: on the early Akhir from 16 to 40 the number is roughly the length in metres, on the later Akhir from 85 to 153 it is the length in feet.

Our model records list 23 Cantieri di Pisa designs, all motor yachts. Twenty are Akhir: eleven from the early metric series between the Akhir 16 and the Akhir 40, nine from the later series between the Akhir 85 and the Akhir 153. The Kaitos 64 and 76 and the Pegasus complete the list. The Pegasus, built from 1966 to 1975, is the oldest model, while the Akhir 85 runs furthest, to 2015. Lengths range from 16.6 metres (Akhir 16) to 46.6 metres (Akhir 153): eight yachts stay under 24 metres, four sit between 24 and 30, and eleven exceed 30. The largest of the early series, the Akhir 40, measures exactly 40 metres.

An Akhir is a yacht for crew and long seasons. Most spend the summer moving between harbours and the winter in a yard, where hull, shafts and stabilisers get their annual check. Many lines date from the 1970s to the 1990s, so engines, wiring and interiors have often been renewed at least once, and a record of that work is worth keeping aboard. Berths for yachts of 30 metres and more are limited, which makes a booked winter place as important as the summer plan.
