Worth knowing
Code 8 Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Three sailing yacht ranges are available: One Design, Cruiser and Match, built from 2010 and at the latest until 2017. Anyone taking part in club races with such a boat is covered from the Basis-Plus tariff level onwards. Races with scoring status are to be declared when taking out the policy.
The premium follows the sail area instead of an engine power, together with value, year of construction and cruising range. Rig, sails and electronics belong in the schedule, because only what is named is contained in the agreed value and thus in the compensation.
Third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros carries the contract, and the full hull cover adds collision, grounding, vandalism and theft of parts.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Are regattas with a Code 8 covered?
Club races are included from Basis-Plus onwards. Races with scoring status are to be declared when taking out the policy so that they are expressly stated in the contract and covered in the event of a claim.
How are sails and rig taken into account in the sum?
List sails, rig and electronics in the equipment schedule. These items go into the agreed value and are therefore part of the agreed compensation.

Series by Code 8 Yachts, build years and cover
Code 8 One Design is a sailing yacht from Code 8 Yachts, built from 2010 to 2017.
Code 8 Cruiser is a sailing yacht from Code 8 Yachts, built from 2010 to 2015.
Code 8 Match is a sailing yacht from Code 8 Yachts, built from 2010 to 2015.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
