Dahl Naval; cover, cost and conditions
Dahl Naval is a Swedish company from Värmdö, east of Stockholm, established in 2003. It builds rigid inflatables and fast motorboats for leisure use as well as for commercial operators, and names quality, performance and safety as its guiding values. An early Dahl 36 called Vilda, built in 2005, set several records and finished third in the Round Britain Race. Both inboard and outboard installations are offered. A Dahl 27 seen on the market, for instance, runs a MerCruiser 496 Magnum, an 8.1 litre V8 with 425 hp, good for around 55 to 60 knots depending on the propeller. What marks out a Dahl is the pairing of a seaworthy hull, a strong engine and a sturdy build for rough water.
Our model records list eleven designs: eight rigid inflatables, two motor yachts and one motorboat. The range starts in 2009 with the Dahl 18, Dahl 27 and Dahl 32, and the Dahl 20, 23 and 25 joined in 2011. The smallest is the Dahl 18 at 5.4 metres, the largest the Dahl 40 at 11.8 metres, listed from 2020. Entered as motor yachts are the Dahl 36 AML from 2020 and the Dahl P10, built from 2012 to 2024, both 10.9 metres long. The E660 motorboat at 6.6 metres ran from 2014 to 2018, the Dahl 36 C from 2013 to 2017. Seven designs reach into the most recent build years, among them every RIB from the Dahl 20 to the Dahl 40 except the 36 C.
Speed is the point of these boats, and speed is also what wears them. On a used Dahl, check the tube seams and the bond between tube and hull, above all at the bow where the waves strike hardest. Look for stress cracks in the gelcoat around the console and seat mountings, since a hull that slams at 50 knots passes those loads straight on. Inboard boats need a close look at the drive, bellows and steering; outboard boats at the transom and engine brackets. Tubes that are kept out of strong sun last noticeably longer. A boat stored on a trailer should rest on its keel rollers and bunks rather than on the tubes, and the trailer itself needs sound bearings for the trip to the slipway.

As the Dahl 20, Dahl 23, Dahl 25 by Dahl Naval and 4 more series are still in production,
parts are available and repair costs are predictable.
Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For the Dahl P10, Dahl E660, Dahl 18 by Dahl Naval and 1 more series the market value and the
replacement cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Dahl 20, Dahl 23, Dahl 25 by Dahl Naval and further series:
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered,
porous fabric after years in the sun is not.
The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
For the Dahl 36 AML, Dahl P10 by Dahl Naval series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For the Dahl E660 by Dahl Naval series: On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
