Worth knowing
Eugenio Molinari C.N.; cover, cost and conditions
Eugenio Molinari C.N. is an Italian yard; C.N. stands for Cantiere Navale. The name points to Eugenio Molinari, boatbuilder and powerboat racer from Lake Como, who died in 2024 at 88. He built his first wooden boat as a teenager in his grandfather's carpentry shop, and the Molinari yard on the shore of Lake Como became known above all for three point racing hydroplanes. Leisure boats under his name were also built on the lake and still run there today. The leisure range uses two names, Condor and Soncor.
Our model records list seven Eugenio Molinari designs, all from build year 2003 and running into the most recent years: six motor yachts and one motorboat. The Condor line has three: the 8.10 at 8.4 m, the 27 at 8.7 m and the 37 at 11.4 m. The Soncor line has four: the 21 at 6.26 m, the only motorboat, the 33 at 10.6 m, the 42 Sirio at 11.94 m and the 48 at 14 m. Lengths go from 6.26 to 14 metres, with three models under nine metres and four above.
Lake Como and the other northern Italian lakes are the natural home for these boats, though the larger Soncors also suit the Ligurian coast. The Soncor 21 can be trailered; the others need a berth or a boathouse. Varnished wood and upholstery last far longer under a tarpaulin, and fresh water lakes are kinder to engines than salt.
