FB Desgin s.r.l; cover, cost and conditions

FB Design is the yard of Italian designer and racer Fabio Buzzi (1943 to 2019). Founded in 1971, it builds in Annone Brianza, Lombardy, and made its name with fast offshore racing boats, mostly diesel powered and fitted with the Trimax surface drives Buzzi developed. When offshore racing faded in the late 1990s, the yard moved towards military and fast patrol craft, alongside leisure boats, with high performance RIBs from roughly 10 to 55 feet at its core. Model names carry the FB prefix with Rib, MIL or RH, plus the Buzzi 39 RIB.

Our records list ten FB Design models: nine filed as motor yachts and one as a RIB, the 12 metre Buzzi 39 RIB from build years 2007 to 2013. The other lines are recorded from 1998 to 2006, with only the FB Rib 38 going back to 1981. The MIL series has four models from the 11.85 metre MIL 38 to the 16.55 metre MIL 55; the Rib series includes the Rib 36, 38 and 42 from 11 to 13.19 metres. The RH 55 matches the MIL 55 at 16.55 metres, and the FB 80 is the largest at 24 metres. No model is shorter than 11 metres.

Boats built for this kind of speed reward a careful owner. Drive systems, steering and engine mounts deserve regular inspection by someone who knows surface drives, and the tubes on the RIB versions should be checked for chafe at every lift out. Most of these boats are berth boats, lifted by crane for the winter; with many of them now twenty years old or more, a full survey before buying is time well spent.
