Forbinabatar; cover, cost and conditions

Forbinabåtar, or simply Forbina, is a Swedish yard set up by Göran Forsberg in 1980. Boats are built in Karlstad on the northern shore of Lake Vänern, and Forsberg draws the designs himself. The range spans family motorboats and motor yachts, many of them with a flybridge. The names tell you which generation a boat belongs to: early models carry four and five digit numbers such as 6000, 8000 or 10000, roughly the length in millimetres, the 1180 gives it in centimetres, and the newer 36 and 42 are close to the length in feet, with CC and Fly versions.

Our model records hold 16 Forbina designs, 13 motor yachts and three motorboats. The list opens in 1993 with the Forbina 11000. Eight models belong to the numbered series from 6000 to 11000, including the 6000 DC, the 8000 F and the 10000 in Coupé and Flybridge form, recorded until 2001, 2002, 2005, 2008 or 2009. The 1180 and 1180 Fly ran from 1997 to 2005 and the Forbina 40 (Fly) from 1999 to 2009. Five lines started in 2011 and reach the latest build years: the 36 CC, 36 Fly, 42 CC, 42 Fly and the 650 F motorboat. Lengths run from 6.2 metres (Forbina 6000) to 12.85 metres (Forbina 42 Fly); five models stay under 8 metres and eleven sit between 10 and 12.85 metres.

Most Forbinas are cabin yachts that live on a marina berth and cruise lakes, archipelagos and coastal waters. The small 6000 and 650 F are easy to trailer, which opens up inland lakes for a weekend trip. Rocky Scandinavian waters reward a careful look at charts and a check of the underwater hull after each season. A long winter ashore is part of the routine, so the engine and the flybridge canvas should be prepared before the boat comes out of the water.
