Hampton Yachts; cover, cost and conditions

Hampton Yachts traces its roots to Taiwan. In 1965 the sailor C. Y. Chen began building sailing yachts in Taipei under the Formosa name. When demand for sailing boats softened, the family turned to ocean-going motor yachts, and in 1992 his son Jeff Chen founded the Hampton Yacht Building Company. Production moved to Shanghai, and a second plant in Taiwan followed later. The yard is known for its pilothouse motor yachts and for the Endurance range of long-range cruisers. Working with the naval architect Howard Apollonio, Hampton developed a hybrid hull of its own, which became a trademark of the brand.

Our model records list 27 designs, all motor yachts, with build years from 2006. The Hampton Endurance 700 opens the list in 2006, followed from 2007 by Pilothouse and Sedan models such as the 558 Pilothouse and the 560 Sedan. Sixteen entries carry the Endurance name, from the 590 to the 920. Three lines reach into the most recent build years: the Endurance 590, the Endurance 658L and the Endurance 750 of the generation that began in 2019. The smallest yacht is the 558 Pilothouse at 17.6 metres, the largest the Endurance 920 at 28.2 metres. Twenty-one designs measure 20 metres or more. Two Skylounge versions and the Euro Motor Yacht 830/860 complete the picture.

These are yachts meant to go a long way, and that shapes how they are used and maintained. Range depends on clean tanks, healthy injectors and well-kept filters, so fuel system records matter. Stabilisers, generators and watermakers deserve as much attention in a survey as the main engines. A pilothouse layout keeps the helm dry and warm on passage, but its large windows and door seals need checking for leaks. Many owners run their Hampton with a captain or crew, and the logbook shows how hard the boat has been worked. A yacht that has crossed oceans may still be in fine order if refits were done on time.
