Her Shine builds motor yachts in East Asia. The first yard was set up in 1977 at Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan, and from 2000 a works at Zhuhai on the Chinese mainland was added; the boats have gone for export since the middle 1970s. What is built are trawlers and pilothouse yachts, that is cruising boats with an enclosed wheelhouse and a displacement hull, alongside aft cabin models. You recognise the yachts by the very wide construction with its deep hull, the tall wheelhouse with windows all round and the generous teak on deck and below.

Thirty eight series are recorded: the Pilot House models 49, 53, 57, 61 and 64; the Trawlers 36, 41 and 45; the Seaotter range with 50, 52, 54 and 56; and the Imperial range with 57, 60 as CMY and MY, and 63. Timber is what defines these yachts today. Decks, superstructures and interiors are largely teak, and teak ages differently from the hull beneath it: leaking deck fittings, dried out seams and moisture in a core are the recurring themes. All of that happens slowly rather than in a single event, which is exactly what separates it from a storm, a sinking or a collision.
