Holiday Mansion was founded in 1965 by Jack Byquist in Salina, Kansas, about as far from salt water as an American boatbuilder can be. The company built cruising houseboats: the living space of a houseboat on a fibreglass hull that could get up on the plane. They were at home on big inland reservoirs and on sheltered coasts alike. Model names pair a line, Barracuda, Aqua Home or Coastal Commander, with a three digit number that reads as length in feet times ten.

Our model records list 25 Holiday Mansion models, all classed as motor yachts, with model years from 1986 to 2001 and none still in production. Lengths range from 8.8 to 15.8 metres, with half of them between 11.9 and 14.1 metres. The Barracuda line accounts for 18 models, from the Barracuda 290 DR at 9.0 metres through Mediter, Coastal and aft cabin versions to the Barracuda 490 SX CC at 15.7 metres. Four Coastal Commander models run from 14.0 to 15.8 metres, the Aqua Home comes as the 420 and 460 at 12.7 and 14.0 metres, and the Baymaster 290 is the smallest at 8.8 metres.

These boats were bought for weekends and holidays aboard with family and friends, often on lakes with shallow bays and crowded docks.
