Innovazioni e Progetti builds motor yachts in Romagna; the works were set up in 1994 at Savignano sul Rubicone not far from Forlì and take a boat from bare hull to ready for use in house. The first two brands, Mira and Alena, were shown at the Genoa show; the IPY range followed later. What is built are open boats and hardtop yachts with inboard as well as outboard power. You recognise the yachts by the flat elongated silhouette, the large open aft deck and the low superstructure carried well forward.

Our model records list 38 models from this yard, 35 of them motor yachts and three motorboats. Recorded build years run from 1994 to 2020. Thirty eight series are recorded: the IPY models 35, 39, 43, 45, 49 and 53; the IP 54 and the IP 58 Sport Fly; the Alena 46, 48, 50, 56 and 72; and the Mira 34, 37 and 44. The number gives the approximate length in feet, so an Alena 48 measures around 14.6 metres. Lengths run from 6.5 to 21.4 metres, half the models between 10.6 and 14.7 metres.

The choice between inboard and outboard power runs right through this range, and it changes more than the noise. An inboard sits in the hull and takes volume from the accommodation; an outboard hangs on the transom and leaves the interior free but changes the trim and what happens in a grounding. Two yachts of the same length can therefore feel like quite different boats.
