Worth knowing
JGM; cover, cost and conditions
Four Madeira ranges and the Onze Silhoutte as a sailing boat come from the years 1970 to 1985. With the motor yachts and the motorboat the engine power goes into the premium; with the sailing boat the sail area takes its place. Added to this in each case are the type of boat, the value, the year of construction and the cruising range.
Whether a Madeira 27 still carries its original engine today or a later drive is something we record in the contract. Conversions belong in the list just as much as permanently installed equipment. Theft of parts including the outboard is included in the full hull cover.
The most recent range ended in 1985, so all the boats are used boats today. The year of construction, the place of purchase and previous owners play no role in acceptance; compensation is paid at the agreed value with no deduction for depreciation. The legal expenses cover for water sports can be taken out alongside.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How does a new engine affect the contract?
The engine power is a premium factor and is recorded in the contract. Conversions and permanently installed equipment belong in the list so that they are carried by the agreed value.
Does anything different apply to the Onze Silhoutte than to the Madeira models?
With the sailing boat the sail area counts, with the motorboats the engine power. The type of boat, the value, the year of construction and the cruising range are used in both cases.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
