Kraps Yachten; cover, cost and conditions
Kraps Yachten is the builder behind the Hoya motor yachts, a range of cruisers from just over 9 to almost 15 metres.Brokerage listings describe the Hoya 116 as a steel motor yacht meant for longer trips with nights aboard rather than day outings, with an inside helm and a flybridge. Two numbering schemes run side by side: three digit names such as 98, 102 or 132 roughly match the length in decimetres for most models, while two digit names such as 43, 44 or 47 sit close to the length in feet. Fly marks a flybridge version.
Our model records hold twelve Kraps entries, all motor yachts. The Hoya 116 appears twice, at 11.8 and 11.9 metres, leaving eleven model names. Seven entries carry a three digit number (98 S, 102, 104, the two 116s, 132 Fly and 132 AK Fly) and five a two digit one (36, 43, 43 E, 44 and 47). Build years start in 1979 with the Hoya 102 and end in 2003 with the Hoya 36, with most lines running to 2001. Lengths range from 9.4 metres (Hoya 104) to 14.92 metres (Hoya 47).
A Hoya is a cruiser for slow travel: rivers, lakes, locks and calm coastal stretches. The steel hull rewards a sound antifouling and regular checks of anodes and welds, and at this age engine and shaft have often been replaced or overhauled already, so service records are worth reading. The flybridge versions give a good view in locks but catch more wind when berthing. A heated hall or a well ventilated winter berth keeps condensation away from the interior.
