Levi Boats is an Italian brand founded by two friends, Antonello Villa and Martin Levi, son of the designer Renato 'Sonny' Levi. At its heart is the Corsair, a Sonny Levi design first built in England by Viking Marine and later in Italy, which has stayed in production without substantial changes since 1963. Building began in Versilia and later moved to the Cantiere Nautico Portegrandi near Venice. A Corsair is recognisable by its deep-V hull, born in offshore racing, and by lines that still belong to the sixties. Construction uses high-performance resins, with a PVC foam sandwich in the topsides and deck.

Our model records list four designs: three motor yachts from the Corsair family and one rigid inflatable. The Corsair Classic and Corsair Work start in 2003, the Corsair Sport PMP in 2016, and all three run into the most recent build years. The PMP 8punto5 RIB is listed from 2014 to 2019; its hull comes from Levi Designs and its styling from PMP Design. Lengths sit close together: the Corsair Classic and Corsair Sport PMP measure 9.3 metres, the Corsair Work 8.65 metres and the RIB 8.77 metres. The Sport version has a centre console and a cabin below with a double berth and heads, and it nods to the historic G50.

A deep-V hull built for speed asks for attention where the loads are highest. On a used Corsair, look at the bottom around the strakes and at the transom, check the engine mounts and the drive, and ask for service records. The sandwich topsides and deck should sound solid when tapped, with no soft spots around fittings. Because the shape has hardly changed since the sixties, the build year cannot be read from the lines, so the paperwork matters. The Corsair Work suggests a boat that has earned its keep, so its hours of use are worth asking about. On the PMP 8punto5, the tubes age fastest: seams, valves and the bond to the hull deserve a close look.
