Linex-Boat Oy is a family business from Central Ostrobothnia on Finland's west coast. In the 1920s Sivert Lindkvist began building wooden boats of five to ten metres there. His son Rude stayed in boatbuilding but moved from wood to glassfibre, and today Rude's son Olli Lindkvist runs the company in the third generation. The boats are built at Peltokorpi near Kokkola. The yard's brand is Nord Star, and its signature is the walkaround deck: side decks on both sides of the wheelhouse let the crew go forward safely, even in a seaway. The hulls are hand laid and built as offshore boats for both leisure and professional work.

Our model records list 23 designs, 16 entered as motor yachts and seven as motorboats. The first is the Nord Star 24 Patrol from 1998, followed by the 24 Fly, the 31 Patrol and the 28 Patrol. Thirteen entries carry the Patrol name, from the 24 to the 42. Alongside them are open variants such as the Nord Star 25 Open and the 25 Sport T-Top, outboard versions of the 24 and 26, and the plus models 28+, 31+ and 33+. At the top sit the Nord Star 47 SCY and 49 SCY; at 15.45 metres the 49 SCY is the largest boat. Six designs measure 7.8 metres, twelve measure ten metres or more, and ten lines reach into the most recent build years.

A Nord Star is made for days when the Baltic is short and steep, and owners tend to use them through spring and autumn as well as summer. That puts wear on the parts that work hardest: the wheelhouse door seals, the heating system, the wipers and the trim tabs. On a used boat it is worth checking the stern drive or outboard brackets for corrosion and the hull for signs of hard landings on rock, which the skerries do not forgive. Ex-patrol or workboat use shows in scuffed side decks and a high engine hour count, so ask for the logbook. A well serviced hand-laid hull will run for decades.
