Linskens is a Dutch yard from Wanssum in the province of Limburg, on the River Maas. The full name on builder's papers is Jachtbouw Peter Linskens B.V. The yard builds steel-hulled motor yachts of the kind that feel at home on the rivers, canals and lakes of the Netherlands. The Catfish 1500 was drawn by the Dutch design office Vripack. The boats can be told apart by their range names, Catfish, Catcruiser and Supercruiser. Steel is a common hull material for Dutch displacement yachts of this kind, since it shrugs off knocks in locks and against quay walls and is straightforward to repair.

Steel is forgiving in locks and on rough quaysides, but it needs watching. On a used Linskens, have the hull thickness measured with ultrasound, especially along the waterline and under the engine room, and look at the anodes and the condition of the underwater coating. Inside, check for condensation behind linings, a common spot for hidden rust on any steel yacht. Many of these boats are lived on for weeks at a time, so heating, generator, fresh water and holding tanks deserve a proper test. A haul out for survey is worth arranging, since the hull below the waterline tells the real story of a steel boat.
