Marine Projects (Plymouth) Ltd.; cover, cost and conditions
Marine Projects (Plymouth) Ltd. is the former company name of the yard in Plymouth on the south coast of England that built its boats under the Princess name and has carried that name itself since 2001. For years Moody sailing yachts were built under the same roof. Anyone buying a yacht from that period will find the old company name on papers, hull numbers and builder's plates, which is why this page runs under Marine Projects rather than under the present marque.
Our model records hold 119 models from this yard: 67 motor yachts, 50 sailing yachts and two motorboats, from the 1962 to 2005 build years. Lengths run from 7.5 to 22 metres. Sixty series are recorded, among them the Princess flybridge models 38, 40, 45, 50, 52, 55, 56 and 60, the sporting Princess V 42 and V 50, the early Princess 20 M and 22 M, and the Moody 46 and 54 CC sailing yachts. Models after 2005 are held under the present marque.
A yacht from this yard is almost always a second or third owner boat today, and most of what matters follows from that. A boat from the eighties or nineties has no current list price, so its value rests on documents, an equipment list and a survey rather than on a catalogue. Motor and sailing yachts are also described differently: engine output on one, sail area on the other.

For the Princess 40, Princess 45, Princess 50 by Marine Projects (Plymouth) Ltd.
and 31 more series the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Moody 38, Princess 366 Riviera, Princess 380 by Marine Projects (Plymouth) Ltd.
and 23 more series there is no list price left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Princess 40, Princess 45, Princess 50 by Marine Projects (Plymouth) Ltd.
and further series: On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the
value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For the Moody 46, Moody 54 CC, Moody 36 by Marine Projects (Plymouth) Ltd.
and further series: On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
