Maritimo builds motor yachts in Australia. Bill Barry-Cotter founded the house in 2002; the yard sits in the boatbuilding precinct at Coomera on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Construction is in composite. The founder came from offshore powerboat racing, and that shows in the layout: the hulls are drawn for long distances in a seaway, with a deep forefoot and a long slender underbody. You recognise the yachts by the flybridge carried well aft, the narrow horizontal window bands and the engine room, which on many models is entered from the stern.

Our model records list 47 Maritimo models, all of them motor yachts. Build years start in 2003 and run into current production. Forty seven series are recorded: the M range with 48, 51, 54, 55, 59, 60, 64, 70 and 600; the S range with 51, 54, 55, 59 and 70; the X range with 50 and 60; and the older OC models 440, 470, 500 and 550 together with the A 50 in the AE and AF versions. Lengths run from 9.7 to 24.8 metres, half the models between 16.1 and 19.1 metres. The number gives the approximate length in feet and the letter the line.

An engine room you can walk into from the cockpit is not a detail but a design decision, and it tells you what these boats are for. A yacht meant to cross water rather than cruise a bay needs its machinery reachable while it is running, and that in turn shapes the whole aft end of the hull.
