Marquis Yachts; cover, cost and conditions

Marquis Yachts is an American name for large motor yachts, built in Pulaski, Wisconsin. The brand belonged to the group around Carver Yachts, later known as the Marquis-Larson Boat Group. What sets a Marquis apart is its European look: the yard worked with the Italian studio Nuvolari Lenard, and the low, stretched superstructures and long window bands show it. The Pulaski plant where Carver and Marquis were built has since been taken over by the parent company of Cruisers Yachts. The number in each name gives the approximate length in feet.

Our model records list 18 Marquis designs, all motor yachts. The Marquis 59 has the earliest build year, 2000, and most lines end between 2012 and 2020; only the M42, from 2017, runs into recent years. Two naming generations stand out: seven models with two digit numbers, from the 40 SC to the 70 Tri Deck, ending by 2013, and ten with three digits, from the 420 SC to the 720 Fly Bridge and 720 Tri-Deck. Lengths run from 12.4 metres (40 SC) to 22.05 metres (720); ten models fall between 15 and 20 metres.

A Marquis is a marina yacht. Most of them stay on a permanent berth and make coastal passages, with big diesels and a lot of systems to look after. Teak decks, hull finish and engine room need regular attention, and the larger tri-deck models are usually run with professional help. Hauling out for antifouling and a winter ashore needs a crane and yard sized for boats over 20 metres.
