Mochi Craft began in the 1960s at Pesaro on the Adriatic, founded by Luciano Mochi Zamperoli; production later moved to neighbouring Fano. For four decades the house built flybridge models. After the end of that period in the 1990s an Italian boatbuilding group took over the brand in 2001 and pointed it in a new direction: since 2003 Mochi Craft has built lobster yachts modelled on the working boats of New England, the first being the Dolphin 51. You recognise these yachts by the high curved stem, the long smooth freeboard and the small deckhouse set well forward.
Our model records list 41 Mochi Craft models, all of them motor yachts. Build years start in 1974 and run into current production. Forty one series are recorded: the Dolphin 44, 51, 54, 54 Fly, 64 Cruiser, 64 Fly and 74; the Long Range 23; and from earlier years the Mochi 14, 14 FB, 16 FB, 18, 19 Sonic, 22.5 Axis, 25 Mega, 44 and 47 Open and the Dominator 34, QS and Super 12. Lengths run from 8.5 to 25.2 metres, half the models between 13.3 and 19.6 metres. The number gives the approximate length in feet on the Dolphins and in metres on the older Mochis.
The brand has two quite separate lives in these records. The boats of the 1970s to 1990s are classics now, and what matters about them is condition and provenance. The Dolphins built since 2003 are current yachts built to a different brief, and what matters about them is the inventory: on a lobster yacht of this kind the fitted equipment is a large part of the whole.
