Worth knowing
Talamex; cover, cost and conditions
Talamex boats are the classic tender alongside a yacht: roll-up, light, with a small outboard. For insurance purposes they are usually included in the contract of the mother yacht, up to an agreed amount. Anyone who uses the tender separately and intensively is better off insuring it in its own right.
The most frequent loss is not sinking but disappearance: the tender and its engine vanish overnight from the pontoon or from the stern. A security cable through both lifting eyes, an engine lock and a tracker are the effective trio, and the last of these brings a ten per cent discount on the hull insurance.

For Talamex: Up to an agreed amount, yes.
Check the figure, as high-value tenders often exceed it.

Nautical information What counts before you cast off, papers, equipment, waters
Licence
Required inland and at sea from 15 hp (11.03 kW); below that, none.
Registration
Registration from 3 hp; carry the boat certificate on maritime shipping routes.
Waters
Inland lakes, the coast and the Wadden Sea, mind the tide tables and the fairway.
Equipment
Lifejackets, paddles, pump, repair kit, anchor gear and signalling equipment.
Cruising range
RIBs close to the coast; check air pressure before every trip and after temperature swings.
Weather
From Beaufort 4 the ride turns hard, and offshore wind sharply raises the risk of drifting.
General guidance, not a complete account;
what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and the manual of your Talamex.
Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.
