Sacs Marine; cover, cost and conditions
Sacs builds RIBs in the upper segment in Italy, and Strider and Rebel go to over thirteen metres, with inboard engines, a cabin and equipment at yacht level. The values are correspondingly high, frequently six figures, and so the question of the agreed value arises just as it does with a motor yacht: without it a reduced current value is paid in the event of a claim, with it the value on record.
On Sacs boats of this size the tube carries only a small part of the value, and hull, drive and equipment make up the rest. For the hull insurance this means that the classic inflatable-boat topics recede and those of a motor yacht come to the fore: shaft installation, shaft gland, generator, air conditioning, navigation electronics. List electronics and technical equipment as separate items; on a Rebel they quickly add up to a five-figure amount.
Sacs owners are mostly berthed in the Mediterranean, often on a mooring buoy or in a marina with high occupancy. The berth belongs in the application: it considerably influences the storm and theft risk. For the winter months our policy covers winter storage and the stay ashore including craning and launching, so use that and do not leave a boat of this size unprotected in the water over the winter.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Does a large RIB need an agreed value?
Yes, for Sacs too: from the five-figure range definitely.
Without an agreed value the reduced current value is paid in the event of a claim,
not the replacement value.
Is winter storage included?
Yes, for Sacs too: including hauling out, craning,
launching and the time ashore at a berth customary for yachts.

Nautical information What counts before you cast off, papers, equipment, waters
Licence
Required inland and at sea from 15 hp (11.03 kW); below that, none.
Registration
Registration from 3 hp; carry the boat certificate on maritime shipping routes.
Waters
Inland lakes, the coast and the Wadden Sea, mind the tide tables and the fairway.
Equipment
Lifejackets, paddles, pump, repair kit, anchor gear and signalling equipment.
Cruising range
RIBs close to the coast; check air pressure before every trip and after temperature swings.
Weather
From Beaufort 4 the ride turns hard, and offshore wind sharply raises the risk of drifting.
General guidance, not a complete account;
what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and the manual of your Sacs.
Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.
Series by Sacs, with value and cover
Rebel 40 / 47 is a motor yacht from Sacs (Italy), built since 2015,
and today changes hands at between €600,000 and €1,600,000.
Strider 10 / 13 is an inflatable with engine from Sacs (Italy), built since 2008,
and today changes hands at between €95,000 and €420,000.
Rebel 47 / Tender is an inflatable with engine from Sacs (Italy), built since 2012,
and today changes hands at between €190,000 and €890,000.
As the Rebel 40 / 47, Strider 10 / 13 and Rebel 47 / Tender by Sacs series are still in
production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable.
Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For the Rebel 40 / 47 by Sacs series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For the Strider 10 / 13, Rebel 47 / Tender by Sacs series: On an inflatable the cause decides,
not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not.
The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
