V-Type; cover, cost and conditions
V-Type builds rigid inflatable boats, mainly tenders and chase tenders that run alongside large yachts. The yard is known for its wide body hull, which also forms the base of its HYST chase tenders. V-Type delivered the first HYST to a charter yacht in Monaco in 2013, bringing it by sea from Malta to Monte Carlo. The boats are built for charter work: towing, guest runs and daily hard use. Newer models carry the V Type name with their length in metres, such as 6.5 or 7.5, followed by the drive or trim: Diesel Jet, Classic, Ultra Light.
Our records hold twelve V-Type models, all RIBs. The early V1 Classic, V2 Pocket Tender, V3 9.1 and Straight Six start in 2000. The 6.0 Ticino follows in 2005, the 6.5 Ultra Light in 2007, the 7.5 Classic and Classic Performance in 2008, the 6.0 and 6.5 Diesel Jet and the 9.5 HYST Chase in 2011, and the 7.5 Life Style Performance in 2014. Six lines run to 2021. Lengths range from 5.6 metres (6.0 Ticino) to 9.5 metres (9.5 HYST Chase), and five models measure exactly 7.5 metres.
A tender works harder than most boats its size: dozens of landings a day, lifts on and off a mother ship and long hours at speed. Check the tube seams and valves regularly, keep the jet intake clear of weed and plastic, and wash the whole boat with fresh water after each run. Ashore, store the RIB under a tarpaulin and with slightly reduced tube pressure.
