VSR Lab d.o.o. builds rigid inflatable boats in Portorož on the Slovenian coast. Founder and designer Samo Potokar is an experienced sailor and sailing coach and drew the first VSR in 2001. The boats are best known as coach and support RIBs in sailing, and coastguard and naval crews rely on them as well. VSR stands for Very Slender RIB, a narrow hull meant to give coaches a safe, dry ride. Model names give roughly the length in metres, and the suffixes mark the version: Coach for the training boat, Pro and R for other variants.

Our records list ten VSR models, all rigid inflatables. Two carry the Coach suffix (5.2 and 5.8), two the Pro suffix (5.9 and 9.5), alongside the 5.8 R, the 6,34 RL, the 5.4, the 6.45, the 8.8 and the F 10. The 5.8 Coach is the earliest entry at 2002 and three models follow in 2003. Four lines run into the latest build years: the 5.4, 5.8 Coach, 5.8 R and 6.45. Lengths go from 5.15 metres (5.2 Coach) to 9.4 metres (9.5 Pro), and eight of the ten models stay under 6.5 metres.

A coach boat lives a busy life: long days on the water, frequent contact with dinghies and other boats, and a trailer ride to every regatta. Tubes, rubbing strakes and towing points take the knocks, so inspect them after each event. Flush the engine with fresh water after salt water use, protect the tubes from strong sun with a fitted tarp, and keep the boat on its trailer under a roof during the winter.
