Walker Bay Boats builds rigid inflatable boats and tenders; the company is registered in Seattle, Washington, and production is in Mexico. The focus is on tenders, the small boats that take a crew ashore from a mooring or an anchorage. The Generation line shows the idea: a rigid hull with a tube around it, and a particularly light version marked LTE that one person can lift out of the water and stow on deck.

Our model records hold 126 Walker Bay models: 73 RIBs, 27 inflatables without a rigid hull, 17 motorboats and nine sailing boats. Build years run from 1997 into current production and lengths from 2.4 to 6.6 metres. A tender lives a life of its own: hoisted on and off, towed, beached, left on a mooring while the crew is ashore. The tube is where that shows, in chafe, valves and seams, and the outboard is the part most likely to go missing. Weight is the other thing worth knowing, because a hull light enough to be lifted by hand is also light enough to be carried off by a gust or a wave against a quay.
