Wave Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Wave Boats is based in Porto Rafti on the east coast of Attica in Greece. By its own account the company designs and builds its boats itself, mainly inflatables and RIBs, along with smaller plastic boats. The inflatables come in series: Wave, Aegean, Fishing, Hurricane and a separate RIB series. Besides building boats, Wave Boats sells trailers and outboard engines and runs a workshop that repairs tubes and engines, handles laminate, electrical and stainless steel work, makes upholstery and stores boats. The boats are easy to place by their names, which point to the Aegean and to Greek places such as the island of Spetses, and by the clear split between leisure RIBs, fishing boats and larger cabin RIBs.
Our model records list 19 designs: 14 RIBs, four motorboats with solid hulls and one inflatable. Twelve lines start in 2005, and 16 reach into the most recent build years. The spread is wide. The smallest boat is the Wave Boats F Rib 235 at 1.65 metres, followed by the Tentep 250 S inflatable at 2.5 metres and the RIB 325 and 385. The Aegean series covers the 14, 16 and 21 at 4.35 to 6.1 metres, the Fishing series the 560 and 660. At the top sit the Hurricane models at 7.9 to 9 metres, some with a cabin; the early cabin versions 790 and 900 are listed only from 2006 to 2012, the Hurricane 799 Cabin from 2010. The motorboats carry the Spetses name, from the 435 to the 530.
On a used RIB the tubes come first. Check the seams, the valves and the bond between tube and hull, and look for chafe where the boat rests on the trailer. Strong sunlight is hard on fabric, so a boat kept under canvas or in a shed usually ages better than one left out all summer. The transom carries the outboard and should be checked for cracks or soft spots, and the steering and fuel lines on the larger Hurricane boats deserve a look as well. Salt water calls for a freshwater flush of the engine after each outing. On the cabin versions, the windows and hatch seals show how the boat has been looked after.

not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not.
