X Craft; cover, cost and conditions
X-Craft is based in Hoorn on the Markermeer in the Netherlands and builds tenders for superyachts, the boats that live in a yacht's tender garage and carry guests, crew and luggage ashore. The Beachlander has a chapter of its own: the yard developed this 7.5 metre multi-purpose tender in-house. A self-supporting step folds out from the bow so that people can step onto the beach with dry feet, worked by hand or, as an option, electrically. With a beam of 2.48 metres and a low profile it fits most tender garages, and it is meant to serve as the only tender on board, handling everything from a swimming trip with children to a run into harbour.
Our model records hold 14 designs, all listed as rigid inflatables and built between 2017 and 2022; none of them reaches into the most recent build years. The names describe the job. The 5.7m Crew Tender is the working boat for the crew, the Sterndrive Guest Tenders at 7.0 and 8.4 metres run on sterndrives, and the 8.0m Jet Drive Guest Tender uses water-jet propulsion. The Performance Tender comes at 8.0, 8.8 and 9.0 metres, joined by the 8.8m Sunlounge Tender. The Beachlander family includes a 6.1 metre tender and the R712, R714, R716 and R718 types between 7.2 and 7.5 metres. At the top sits the Open Limousine Tender at ten metres. Seven designs stay below eight metres.
A tender spends its life between the garage, the crane and the beach, and its wear shows exactly there. Lifting points, cradle pads and fender lines take the strain every time the boat is launched, so look at them closely on a used unit. The tubes of a rigid inflatable age with sun and salt; check the seams, the valves and the rubbing strake for chafe. Jet drives want an eye on the intake grille and the impeller after beach work in sand, sterndrives on the bellows and the anodes. Because tenders often follow their yacht across several seas, a logbook of engine hours and service stamps matters as much as the hull itself, and a fold-out bow step should be worked through its full travel before any purchase.
