B2 Marine (B2 Marine Blue Djinn) builds motorboats in the Bordeaux area. Bernard Badets founded the business in April 1986 with the aim of building simple, practical boats that move easily on a trailer; he had previously worked for a maker of boat trailers. He registered the name Cap Ferret, after the spit of land at the Bassin d'Arcachon, as a trade mark. The works today stand at Latresne near Bordeaux. You recognise the boats by the high bow carried well forward, the wide transom and the plain finish drawn for use rather than for show.
Our model records list 53 B2 Marine (B2 Marine Blue Djinn) models: 50 motorboats, two sailing boats and one sailing yacht. Build years start in 1996 and run into current production. Fifty three series are recorded: the Cap Ferret in lengths 452, 472, 522, 552, 572, 652, 672 and 702, each in the Open version as an open boat, Cruiser with a small cabin, Sun Deck with a sunbathing area and WS with a screen, plus the sailing boat Blue Djinn. Lengths run from 4.5 to 7.2 metres, half the models between 4.9 and 6.4 metres. The number gives the length in centimetres.
A transportable boat is designed around a constraint that has nothing to do with the sea: it has to fit behind a car and come off the trailer without a crane. That sets the beam, the weight and the depth of the hull, and it is why boats of this kind look plainer than their length would allow. It also means the ramp, not the harbour, is where most of their handling happens.
