Celebrity Boats; cover, cost and conditions
In the nineties Celebrity built sports boats in the mid-price segment, mostly with sterndrive. Today they are inexpensive used boats where the question of spare parts supply is always in the background. That is no obstacle to cover, but it does affect the repair time after a claim.
A realistic statement of value is important. Base it on what a comparable boat costs on the market, not on the new price back then and not on the purchase price of a cheap opportunity buy. In the event of a total loss we pay the agreed value under full hull cover.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What happens in the event of a total loss?
Under full hull cover the agreed value is paid, in the Premium tariff with no deductions for depreciation (new for old).
Do you also insure brands that no longer exist?
Yes. Whether the yard still exists makes no difference to cover.

What matters for motorboats and sports boats is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Series by Celebrity, with value and cover
180 / 190 Bowrider is a motorboat from Celebrity (the USA), built from 1988 to 2002, and today changes hands at between €5,000 and €18,000.
Status 220 / 240 is a motorboat from Celebrity (the USA), built from 1990 to 2002, and today changes hands at between €8,000 and €26,000.
268 / 285 Cruiser is a motor yacht from Celebrity (the USA), built from 1990 to 2002, and today changes hands at between €14,000 and €42,000.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
