Chantier Ofcet; cover, cost and conditions
Chantier Ofcet was a small yard in La Rochelle on the French Atlantic coast. It grew out of Prepa Nautic, a business that prepared racing yachts for their events. In 2014 Yann Dubé set the yard up as a company of its own to keep boatbuilding apart from the service side. Ofcet built small racing and racer cruiser sailboats and also moulded glassfibre parts for other yards in the region. At the end of 2018 it moved from the Pôle Nautique to the La Pallice port area. On 7 May 2019 the commercial court in La Rochelle placed the yard in liquidation, while Prepa Nautic carried on.
Our model records list two designs, both entered as sailing yachts. The OFCET 6.50 is 6.5 metres long, which makes it a boat of the Mini class, the small offshore racers that make up the Mini Transat fleet; it appears with build years from 2015 to 2023. The Ofcet 32, drawn by Marc Lombard, measures 9.8 metres and is listed from 2014 to 2023, offered both as a pure racer and as a racer cruiser. Neither reaches into the most recent build years. The two are 3.3 metres apart, from a singlehanded Atlantic boat to a yacht for a small crew.
Boats like these are sailed hard, so a used one deserves a careful look. On a Mini, check the keel attachment, rudder bearings and the bulkheads around the mast step, and ask for the race history: miles sailed and any knockdowns tell more than the build year. Sails and electronics are often renewed in the course of a racing life and add a lot to what is on offer. On the Ofcet 32, the layout depends on whether the boat was built as a racer or a racer cruiser. With the yard closed, spares no longer come from the original builder, so drawings and supplier details in the boat's papers are worth having.
