Comfortbåtar comes from Arvika in the Swedish province of Värmland. Kenneth Albinsson and Ingmar Boding founded the company in 1972 as Comfortbåtar AB, and after financial difficulties it was reorganised in 1982 as Comfortbåtar i Arvika AB. The yard has specialised in sailing yachts. Albinsson drew most of the early boats himself; later designs came from Håkan Södergren and Thomas Bern. The first generation carried the Comfort name, with boats such as the Comfort 30 and Comfort 34, before the Comfortina 32 opened the line by which the yard is known today. The Cayenne, the Comfortina 39, 38 and 35 and, in the late nineties, the Comfortina 42 followed.
Our model records hold 13 entries, all sailing yachts, from 9.5 to 14.1 metres. The Comfortina 43 appears twice, once from 2018 to 2022 and once from 2020 onwards, so there are twelve different names. The oldest entry is the Comfort 32 from 1975; the Comfortina 32 and Cayenne 42 follow from 1978, the Comfortina 39 and Compis 33 from 1980. The Comfortina 38 was built from 1982 to 2013, the Comfortina 36 until 1991 and the Comfortina 41 from 1995 to 2001. Five entries reach into the most recent build years: the Comfortina 35, 39 and 42, the later Comfortina 43 and the Comfortina 46, which at 14.1 metres is the largest model and is listed from 2014. Ten entries measure ten metres or more.
Many Comfortinas in our records date from the eighties and nineties, and an older Scandinavian yacht that has spent its winters ashore in a cold climate tends to be gentle on the hull but hard on anything that holds water. On a used boat, check the engine cooling circuit, the water tanks and the seacocks for frost damage. If the boat has a teak deck, look at the seams and the fastenings. Inspect the chainplates and the mast step, and ask for the age of the standing rigging and the sails, because both are costly to renew on a yacht of eleven or twelve metres. Examples with a long service history and few owners are worth seeking out, and a sea trial under sail tells more than any brochure.
