Excel Inflatables; cover, cost and conditions
Excel brings inflatable boats and rigid inflatables to the British market. The range is ordered by intended use and every line name begins with a V. The Vanguard range is the heavy version in reinforced PVC, meant for tender and working use, with a sectioned aluminium floor. The Ventura range is the light counterpart with a high pressure air deck and an inflatable keel tube, meant for calm water. Between them stand the Vantage, the Variante and the angling version Verano. You recognise them by the consistently light coloured tubes with their dark rubbing strake and the very plain finish without a moulded console.
Our model records list 57 Excel models: 32 soft inflatables, 22 rigid inflatables and three motorboats. Build years start in 2011 and run into current production. Fifty seven series are recorded: the Vanguard XHD from 335 to 705, the Vantage 460, the Variante RT 230 and 260, the Ventura SL from 200 to 290, the Verano 480 Sport Fisher and the Fish Pro models RT 260 and SD 290. Lengths run from 1.6 to 7.1 metres, half the models between 2.7 and 4.7 metres. The number gives the length in centimetres.
The floor is the practical difference between these ranges. An air deck is light and folds away but takes less point load than a solid one; an aluminium floor takes more but makes the boat heavier and bulkier to stow. It is the kind of choice that decides whether a boat gets used, and on a tender that matters more than almost anything printed on the specification sheet.
