Fost; cover, cost and conditions
Fost is a Greek builder of rigid inflatable boats. Rental listings describe the boats as drawn by Greek naval architects with Greek waters specifically in mind. Model names pair a line, such as Matrix, Obsession, Dream or Thunder, with a number that usually hints at size: the Obsession 740 is 7.4 metres long, the 860 about 8.6. On the Matrix 32 or the Sharp 39 the figure sits closer to the length in feet. Alongside open sports RIBs there are cabin versions, Diving variants and a small Tender range.
Our model records hold 22 Fost designs: 18 RIBs and four Tender inflatables between 2.6 and 3.6 metres. The earliest entries date from 2004, among them the Bullet 8.60, Thunder 6.85, Smart 4.40 and Matrix 32, and 14 models are listed into the most recent build years. The Matrix and Obsession lines have four models each. Lengths run from the 2.6 metre Tender 2.60 to the 11.72 metre Sharp 39 Cruiser; eight models stay under six metres, nine sit between 6.85 and 8.65 metres and five go beyond that.
The Tenders and the smaller RIBs are trailer boats that spend the off season in a garage or on a hard stand and go in from a slipway. The Matrix 32 family and the Sharp 39 Cruiser are berth boats for longer coastal runs and island hopping. Tubes appreciate shade and a rinse with fresh water after salt, and a winter out of the sun keeps them supple. Anyone using the Diving versions should check tank racks and boarding ladders before each season.
