Itama is an Italian name for open motor yachts. It was founded by designer Mario Amati, and the brand simply reads his surname backwards. His aim was a yacht that would not date and that brought the feeling of freedom out on deck, which is why the range centres on open yachts with a large cockpit. Since 2004 the brand has belonged to the Ferretti Group and is built in its plants. The number in each name gives roughly the length in feet.

Our records hold 17 Itama models, all motor yachts. The list opens in 1979 with the Itama 38, followed by the 54 from 1983 and the 45 from 1986, which stays in the data until 2022. Three lines reach the latest model years: the 45S from 2019, the 62 from 2008 and the 75 from 2007. Lengths run from 12.6 metres (38) to 23.54 metres (75); seven models stay under 15 metres, seven fall between 15.15 and 19.72 metres, and three exceed 23 metres.

An open yacht lives in its cockpit, so sun, salt and spray reach upholstery, teak and helm electronics every day. Canvas tops and cushions want washing and drying after each trip, and the teak is better served by gentle cleaning than by a pressure washer. Most Itamas are Mediterranean berth boats, used for fast runs to an anchorage, and the models above 19 metres need a yard with heavy lifting gear for their winter haul-out.
