Jachtbouw Bijko V.O.F.; cover, cost and conditions

Jachtbouw Bijko is a family business in Harlingen, Friesland, founded in 1983. The yard sits on the Van Harinxmakanaal just upstream of the Tjerk Hiddes lock, the gateway to the Wadden Sea. Besides berths, winter sheds and repair work, Bijko has built its own yachts under the Carline and Noordkaper names. The Carline motor yachts have steel hulls, a common choice in the Netherlands for boats that move between inland waters and the coast. A Bijko yacht is easy to place by the Carline name with a four digit number that roughly gives the length in centimetres, and by Harlingen as the yard in the build papers.

Our model records list four designs: three Carline motor yachts and one motor sailer. The Carline 1000 at 10.6 metres runs from 1993 to 2022, while the Carline 1100 at 11.6 metres starts in 2000 and is the only one that reaches into recent production. The Carline 1280 at 12.8 metres follows from 2002 to 2020. The Noordkaper 40 motor sailer at 12 metres completes the list, recorded from 1997 to 2019. Steel boats from the Dutch tradition are built to last, but they ask for a disciplined owner. On a used Carline or Noordkaper the hull plating, the welds around the waterline and the inside of the bilges should be checked for rust, ideally with ultrasonic thickness readings. Anodes, coatings and the stern gear need attention at every haul out. A Noordkaper adds a rig to the list, with standing rigging and sails to be inspected. These boats usually cruise canals, the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea, where drying out on sandbanks is part of the game.
