MOA Técnica is a Spanish builder of motorboats and motor yachts, selling its boats under the GR line of cruisers and yachts; the yard presents itself online at moatecnica.com. Hulls are built in glassfibre. The GR 39, which also appears in listings as the Platinum GR 39 Open, is a fair example: 11.98 metres long, 3.70 metres wide, powered by twin Volvo Penta D6 diesels of 350 hp each, with one cabin and two berths. The yard later presented the 53 Platinum Coupe as its new flagship, a boat of more than fifty feet with three IPS drives, an enclosed upper deck and three cabins with three heads below, alongside an open version. The GR and Platinum names on the hull make the boats easy to place.

Our model records hold seven designs, all filed as motor yachts, in three lines: the GR Cruiser 28, 39 and 49, the GR Fisher 28 and 38, and the Platinum 32 and 40. The GR Cruiser 28 and GR Fisher 28 are the smallest at 8.45 metres each, followed by the Platinum 32 at 9.8, the GR Fisher 38 at 11.6, the GR Cruiser 39 at 11.98 and the Platinum 40 at 12.3 metres. The largest is the GR Cruiser 49 at 15.5 metres. The GR Cruiser 39 and the Platinum 40 start in 2002, the other five in 2003. Six designs run until 2012, while the GR Cruiser 49 ends in 2009. None reaches the recent build years.

These boats are now between ten and twenty odd years old, and most change hands on the used market, often in Spain. With twin diesels the engine hours and service history carry as much weight as the hull, so ask for both engines' records and look at the mounts, exhaust elbows and the shafts or drives. Sun and salt are hard on gelcoat, upholstery and canvas, which shows quickly on boats kept on a Mediterranean berth all year. Check the electrics and the electronics at the helm, as these are often original. A GR Fisher is set up for days out on the water, while the larger Cruiser and Platinum models suit coastal cruising with a few nights aboard.
