Nova Marine comes from Taiwan. Eddy Tao founded the company in 1983, and the yachts carry the yard's own brand name, Novatec. The business grew up in the years when Taiwan became an important source of yachts for North America, Europe and Australasia. Well known designers and naval architects have worked on the range, among them Bill Dixon, Tommaso Spadolini and Carlos Mezzera, and the models run from 40 to 84 feet. The range falls into four lines: the Classic Sedan from 46 to 56 feet, the Islander from 48 to 60 feet, the Euro from 52 to 84 feet and, as the youngest family, the SuperNova. Knowing the line already gives a rough idea of the size.

Our model records list 14 designs, all of them motor yachts. The oldest is the Galaxy 40 at twelve metres, built from 1985 to 1992. From 2005 come the Nova 46 and 56 Classic Sedan, the Nova 48 Islander and Nova 60 Islander and the Euro models 48, 74 and 82, which ran until 2012. The Nova Euro 78 and Nova Euro 84 followed in 2010, the Nova Euro 52 and Nova Euro 58 in 2011, the Nova S 65 SuperNova in 2014 and the Nova 56 Sports Sedan in 2017. The largest is the Nova Euro 84 at 25.6 metres. Nine designs reach into the most recent build years, while the Nova 56 Classic Sedan ends in 2020.

A yacht of this size lives on its systems. On a used Nova, ask for the engine hours and service records, the age of the generator, the condition of the stabilisers if fitted, and a survey of the hull and the underwater gear. Where a teak deck is fitted, the seams and fastenings deserve a close look. If the boat has come from overseas, find out where it has been and how it was kept.
