The Outrigger Boat Company was based in Chicago, Illinois, and built a trimaran to plans by Dick Newick, a well-known name among multihull designers. The boat was launched as the Somersault 26 and later sold as the Outrigger 26; our records carry it as the Sommersault 26. It is one of the few production boats ever built to a Newick design. You can tell her by the curved crossbeams that recall tusks and by the slim, buoyant floats. She was built in glassfibre and is very light, displacing around 680 kilograms, with a fractional sloop rig on a rotating mast.

Check where the crossbeams meet the main hull and floats, as these joints carry the highest loads and any cracking or soft laminate there needs expert eyes. Floats should be dry inside; water that has crept in over decades adds weight and hides damage. The rotating mast needs a free-turning step and sound fittings. If a boat has been stored ashore, look at the hull bottom for wear from supports, and ask about any repairs made over the years.
